You've probably seen the ads that say "I make money just by reading scripts from my walk-in closet." If you want to build a business, you going to have to learn how to act. Just being able to read scripts barely gets you near the door to voiceover. In this video, Anne talks about the skills necessary to build a successful VO business.
In today's video, we're gonna talk about what it means to be a voice actor instead of just being a voice.
Ok, so here's why it's important that you are a voice actor and not just a voice. Number one it keeps you authentic and believable and allows you to really tell the story for the client. When you can tell the story you can really do a lot of wonderful things for yourself and for the listener. You can really reach out across the microphone and touch people's hearts and that's one of the biggest reasons why I love being a voice actor. It's so much more than just being a "voice". It's so much more than just reading scripts.
It separates you from all of the people who think that it's just I'm going into my closet and read some scripts, or "I can talk into a microphone".
Another reason why it's really great to be a voice actor is that it's going to separate you from all of those AI bots that are gonna be coming out. I have had a lot of discussions about that lately. The technology is here, it's coming, and we want to be able to evolve along with the technology and really create a separate niche for ourselves. While those AI bots are coming and maybe taking some of the lower-paying jobs, we can create more jobs by being that much more human and that much more authentic and that much more of a voice actor. The other thing is that if you do want to make your own AI voice, being a voice actor is super important because in order to make a great AI voice you have to be a great voice actor. That way when you decide to sell that AI voice and make a commission on pay to plays, everybody's gonna want your AI voice and not those other ones that sound robotic.
Much love and Keep on rockin' your biz!
