Tension is a sure-fire way to make your voice-over reads sound forced and fake. This simple trick will help you release that tension and improve your voiceover reads!

Relax, and you'll read better.

Today, I want to talk to you about the power of the shrug, and how it can help you to deliver an amazing performance.

So a lot of times when we're voicing copy, we find ourselves in maybe a stressful moment where it's hard to relax into the story. We're really trying to sound more authentic, to sound believable. And so a lot of times in order to get primed, to tell the story, and to relax, I often tell my students to just shrug right before they say the line.

So a lot of times this will just help to get rid of that tension that's in your shoulders. The tension that is here as you're looking at the copy, and you're not moving any part of your body. A lot of times just moving your body, shaking it off, will help to really relax you into that. Or if you happen to be doing a tagline like Ikea, make the dream yours, you can simply say, well, what's the name of that store.

Again, shrug yourself into it. Ikea, make the dream yours and you can shrug as you say each line, which will really help you to just relax. And it takes some of the tension away from all that energy, only focusing on your mouth. So it sounds less announcery when I shrugged, before I say it Ikea make the dream yours.

So it can really help us to put us in a position where we're relaxing and we're not focusing so much on just saying the word. And when we're just saying the words, a lot of times that is where all of our energy goes and where a lot of the tension goes as well. Moving your body around shrugging, your shoulders will help you to relax so that you can kind of just, Hey, that's what I'm talking about.

That's all it is to help you put yourself in the mental state of mind, as well as the physical relaxation. That's all I've got for you today. It might be a short one, but it's a really important one. So the next time you find yourself all stressed and it sounding announced rate. Shrug your shoulders.

Thanks so much, guys. I'll see you next week.
