Setting Goals for Success: A New Year, A New Mindset

Climber in a red shirt raises arms in victory atop a rocky peak. Clouds cover the background, evoking a sense of achievement and freedom.

As the year winds down, it’s time to stop, breathe, reflect, and—most importantly—give thanks. Taking this time allows us to enter the new year refreshed and ready for even greater success.

If you’re reading this, chances are you want to grow as a performer & business owner. But how do you get there? The answer isn’t in overnight success but in setting realistic, manageable goals. Whether you’re just starting out or looking to level up, having a clear vision of what you want to accomplish is key.

Here’s how to set yourself up for a year of progress, success, and fulfillment.

Set Realistic, Attainable Goals

Take an honest look at where you are in your career. Are you just starting out? Do you have a solid demo? Are you consistently booking work? Your goals should reflect your current reality. If you’ve only booked one job in six months, expecting to land five new clients every month might not be realistic just yet. Instead, set goals that are achievable based on your current trajectory, and write them down! Even simple, actionable steps can make a huge impact when consistently pursued.

And don’t forget—this industry is unpredictable. Clients, campaigns, and projects can change in an instant. Having a flexible mindset and backup strategies in place ensures that when things shift, you can pivot and keep moving forward.

Practice Gratitude

Give thanks for everything—the wins, the struggles, the lessons. Gratitude helps create a mindset of abundance and keeps you focused on what truly matters. Take time to recognize your achievements, big or small. Did you book a new client? Improve your auditioning skills? Build a stronger network? Write them down. Celebrating your wins—no matter how small—keeps you motivated and helps manifest more success in the future.

Build a Roadmap: Don’t Skip the Middle Steps

Lofty goals are great, but they need a roadmap. If your goal is to land a national commercial, how will you get there? Maybe you need a top-tier agent. To get an agent, you need a killer commercial demo. Before that, you need the right coaching. Instead of setting a vague goal, break it down into clear, actionable steps. This way, each milestone is a win that gets you closer to your bigger goal.

Money Goals Without Stress

Let’s talk money. It can be a tough subject, but setting financial goals is essential for long-term success. If setting a specific income goal feels overwhelming, try a different approach. Instead of saying, “I want to make X amount per month,” shift the focus to growth: “I want to increase my income by X% this year.” Breaking it down into smaller monthly goals makes it more manageable—and seeing your progress over time will keep you motivated.

Goals Aren’t Just Numbers—Mindset Matters Too

Success isn’t just about numbers. What makes you happy in your business? If certain tasks drain you, consider outsourcing them. If you’ve been wanting to explore a new genre of voiceover, invest in coaching to build your skills. Aligning your goals with what truly fulfills you will make the journey more enjoyable and sustainable.

Set Yourself Up for Success

Goals shouldn’t feel like pressure or stress—they should inspire you. Instead of setting an unrealistic number of new clients you want to land, focus on what you can control: outreach, networking, training, and marketing efforts. Small, consistent actions lead to big results over time.

So grab a pen, write down a few goals, and start crafting your strategy for the year ahead. And remember, you don’t have to do it alone—I’m always here to help guide and support you on your journey. Let’s make this year your best yet!
