When you first launch your VO career, you can feel excited and joyful. But it takes hard work, and sometimes you can lose that spark. Anne reminds you to reflect and choose the joy every day.
Make the choice
Today I want to talk about finding joy in your voiceover business.
A lot of times in the voiceover industry, we have highs and then we have lows and sometimes it feels like the lows are a little bit longer than the highs. And it's easy to forget what it was that got you involved in your voiceover business to begin with. There are many, many hard days. There can be days that go by that you're not getting a job.
You're frustrated with marketing. Nobody seems to be responding, your clients aren't paying you, maybe groups on social media complaining about things sometimes. And this can get you down. And I want you guys to remember that you got into this industry for a reason, right? It was a passion. It was a dream. I remember when I first decided to get into voiceover, it was, it was a dream of mine to be able to do something that I loved and work for myself.
That to me was joyful. And when I first started, I was really excited to learn all that I could and get my business rolling. And then soon enough, after so many years, I started getting into the grind of the voiceover business. And I started hitting some of these lows where I was really stressed out thinking maybe this wasn't the right path for me.
My self-talk was, "I don't seem to be getting any jobs that I've auditioned for. Nobody's sending me emails, asking me for quotes." But I promise you that if you have the commitment and the dedication to always improve your craft and always strive to build a better business, you will find the joy.
Take a deep breath and think about what it was that got you excited about voiceover? Was it, you know, being able to create great character voices? Was it reading that audiobook to your intended audience? Was it maybe an e-learning module where you felt that you were actually helping people or maybe reading a medical narration that, you know, got you excited because there were all these big words.
So I want you to every day, take a moment and remember what it is about your voiceover business that brings you joy. Every second of your day, you have that option to choose joy. I believe in you. So don't forget to take the time and think of those things that bring you joy.
You guys have a great week and I'll see you next week.
Thanks for reading!
