This was 4x4 Maya Road chipboard album I created for my mom for Mother's Day. I had created the base album and the cute little canvas storage bag (pictured underneath the album) a while back and was just waiting for the right time to use it!
The album is covered with Basic Grey's Stella Ruby papers. Interspersed in between the chipboard pages are transparency pages that I cut from a Hambly Screen Prints Metallic Silver Brocade overlay. So pretty!!! And of course, everything was distressed with Tim Holtz walnut distress inks. Allow me to digress a bit. First off, I could never ever say enough good things about Tim Holtz! His blog is amazing, and I really love how the Internet has evolved lately with You Tube and streaming video. More and more of my scrapbook icons are launching videos of thier techniques, and frankly, I couldn't be happier!!! I LOVE it! Remember, back in the day, when you had to read instructions on how to do certain techniques? It was always so hard to follow, especially if there weren't lots of pictures involved. (I always thought that there were never enough pictures, especially when it came to creating a special bow, or explaining a complex book binding procedure....) I just saw this great technique by Tim Holtz on his blog. You can also just type in your favorite scrapper or scrapbook technique in a google video search.
Ok, Ok, now back to the album... :) One of the things that I love the most about this album is that it is sooo personal. For the most part, it is photos of just me and my mother, and little notes telling her what she means to me and how thankful I am to have her. I really wish that I had more photos of just the two of us from my childhood. But I am really thankful for the photos that I do have, and I think I was able to put the majority of them in this album for my mom. I know she will appreciate it. Note to self: Start taking more pics with me with my family! Here is the excerpt from the intro page: Mom, As I grow older, I am more and more in awe of the things that define you: intelligence, beauty, strength, humor, selflessness, just to name a few! I have such good memories of growing up with you by my side. I could always count on you to be there for me, no matter what the circumstance. You came to every horse show, sporting event, piano recital, choral concert, and pretty much everything I was ever in. You sacrificed for me, supported me, defended me, fought for me, and loved me more than I knew. Your love and support enabled me to become the person I am today, and I am still learning from you. I want you to know how eternally grateful I am for all that you have done for me. And always know that your favorite daughter loves you right back, more than you could even possibly imagine!!! xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxox
I did a search for Mother's Day quotes and found some great ones that I added to my pics in photoshop Elements. In order to add conformity to the album, I converted all of the photos to sepia and used a couple of awesome frame sets by Rhonna Farrer at the House of 3. If you've never been to the House of 3, I highly reccommend it!! It is a collaboration of 3 amazing artists, Rhonna Farrer, Heidi Swapp, and Janet Hopkins. I truly love all of their stuf!!! (I just ordered the Jeweled Chandelier Wall art - sooooooo cute! I just couldn't resist - it was a present to myself in honor of NSD....) On my photos in the album, I used both the Rounded Corners Frame Kit and the Negatives Frame Kit by Rhonna. I also used some word art that I printed on injet transparency paper from the Mother Heart Word Art Kit. I just love the versatility of the kits - they are so easy to use and they make every photo look awesome! And I have been a long time fan of Rhonna Farrer. She is just amazing and I just love all of her digital kits! Most of you avid acrappers out there will recognize that the cover is stamped with the oh so classic Heidi Swapp "Cherish" stamp. Check out this great deal for Heidi Swapp stamps at QVC! I also used the Heidi Swapp Mini Daisy mask for the canvas storage bag. So much fun! Sprinkled throughout the pages are, of course, my "go to" embellishment of late, FLOWERS!!! Maybe because I have so many, or maybe because I always relate Mother's Day and Moms with pretty flowers!!! All in all, this is one of my favorite little albums so far, and I know my mom will "cherish" it forever! To see the album in it's entirety, please visit my Design Gallery! |
